Coronavirus pushes Rhode Island to postpone 2020 main

Rhode Island will transfer its 2020 main to June 2 from the initially deliberate April 28 in response to the lethal coronavirus outbreak, Gov. Gina Raimondo introduced Monday.

Final week, the Rhode Island Board of Elections voted to postpone the state's main from April 28 to June 2, based on the board's deputy director of elections, Miguel Nunez. However the resolution was "pending the governor signing an emergency order," Nunez mentioned.

"I'm following the recommendation of the Board of Elections, and can signal an govt order to do that,"  Raimondo mentioned in a tweet on Monday.

Rhode Island has 26 delegates up for grabs. Sen. Bernie Sanders received the state in 2016 when he ran towards former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
