Former Rep. Duncan Hunter sentenced to 11 months for misuse of marketing campaign funds

After years of denying any wrongdoing, former Rep. Duncan Hunter has been sentenced to 11 months in jail and three years of supervised probation, in accordance with NBC's San Diego TV station KNSD.

A California Republican who represented the state's 50th Congressional district, Hunter and his spouse had been charged with 60 prison counts of marketing campaign finance violations in August 2018 forward of the midterm election. They confronted allegations of spending marketing campaign funds on private objects reminiscent of holidays, fuel, groceries -- and airfare for a pet rabbit.

Federal Election Fee finance guidelines prohibit spending marketing campaign funds for private use.

Hunter initially denied any wrongdoing, pleading not responsible and dubbing his prosecution a "witch hunt."

However in December, he swiftly modified course.
